Online MBA on-budget

jomalie

I am a developer transitioning to solution engineering role (internal one, not pre-sales or post-sales). I have 10 years of experience in development/consulting and wanted to transition to more of business-focused function.

I would like to seek advice if what online program you can recommend for the following criteria?

1) Not more than 12,000 EUR

2) Accredited by top accreditation body

3) Fully remote

4) Reputable

So far - here are the schools I am looking at:

1) MMU - MBA

2) Lead University - MIM (in my research, MBA is still better for senior level position as it is more generic kind of degree)

I am trying to find scholarship and I can't find any for the online one yet. Also I'd like to apply for non-gmat ones and less requirements (I don't have contacts to my previous professors/managers so recommendation might be challenging to get).

Appreciate any thoughts.

I live in central europe and I can't find any local university that has good reputation in terms of online MBA so trying to filter my choices to US and UK ones.

Thank you.

I assume you mean Leeds, not Lead.

Given your limited budget, I suggest you focus on one business function (Accounting, finance, HR, marketing, supply chain etc) and take an MSc focussed on that. MMU is a good school but its reputation is limited. It's not even the top school in its own city.

Thanks Duncan.

I read your comment on the Essex MBA and I see that they are AMBA accredited. They now have 5000 discount (which translates to 10,000 pounds) and even lowered the tuition to 13,500 for 2021-2022. Do you think it is something to consider?
Essex is highly ranked university in QS and THE as compared to MMU. Do you think it has more impact?

I am also bumping my budget to 15k pounds and I see some more options there. But if I get the 10k pounds for Essex then might be a deal breaker.

I still think an MSc is a good option.

I'd have a conversation with Leeds and ask them critically if they think this kind of career transition is typically / within the realm of possibility for somebody with your background.

My sense is that a general management program online will attract more students at the beginning of their careers, rather than somebody a decade in who is looking to shift in this way.

You might also want to scour LinkedIn for people working in the kinds of positions you are interested in, at your target firms, to see if they have business degrees, and if so, where they did them. This will give you a good idea what the valuable networks look like.
