Australia's AGSM to Offer an Online MBA

Specializations available in Social Impact, Technology, and Change

Australia's AGSM Business School will launch an online MBA program this fall.

AGSM is calling its new online program the "MBAx," and it will offer specializations in Social Impact, Change, and Technology.

The entire program will include 12 courses, with 6 core classes and 6 specialization options. The core classes cover topics like business economics, marketing, and corporate finance, while the specialization courses are unique to each focus area. For instance, students pursuing the Social Impact specialization can opt to take classes like "Corporate Responsibility and Accountability," or "Social Investment and Philanthropy."

The school plans to add more specializations in 2016.

In some cases, according to the program's webpage, classes will be delivered in a face-to-face format, but only if there's sufficient demand.

AGSM also offers a blended MBA program with a focus on technology—the "MBT"—which combines online learning and face-to-face classes. However, the new MBAx in Technology will eventually replace the MBT; AGSM is no longer accepting applications for the MBT program.

Although online MBA programs have gained popularity in other parts of the world, they are more of a rarity in Australia. Only a few other internationally-accredited business schools in the country offer online MBA programs, including the University of South Australia, which offers online courses as part of its flexible MBA program.

The applications for AGSM's MBAx program are currently open, and will close on July 6th. To apply for the program, prospective candidates should have at least two years of work experience and a prior undergraduate degree. Those without an undergraduate degree must have at least six years of work experience to apply. English-language proficiency must also be demonstrated.
