@KieronPolard,
I believe Sophia is seeking detailed advice and/or a comparative analysis. It would have been helpful if you could have given her some rational behind your personal preference.
@Sophia - There are few questions you need to be asking.
1) What are you target undergrad or graduate course? Starting salaries for people having undergrad in accounting vs finance is similar. $40-$65,000 range. Again it depends upon your undergrad school as well as company that hire - Big4 - top3 etc.
2) Are you a career switcher? - Are you coming from a liberal arts background and trying to get into Acc/Fin using your masters or MBA? Both Acc/Fin - in my experience - requires some relative experience for higher positions else you'll be starting at the bottom / undergrad level salary.
3) Specialization? Is there anything you like - maybe Forensic accounting or Investment banking? certain areas within Accounting are high in demand - as are certain areas in Finance. Are you great with attention to details or are you comfortable dealing in uncertain scenarios with lot of assumptions?
Come back with more information about your work experience, career goals and geography.
