Hi all,
recently I joined a presentation from Birmingham University regarding their Online MBA program. They strongly emphasized the need of collaborative work with the other students and the fact that approximately 12 to 15 hours are required every week to go through the materials and battle the paperwork.
Going for an Online degree would be my second time after having sucessfully finished an Online LL.M., in which I haven't bee engaged that much. In order to fulfil the requirements I've only learnt a few hours on the weekends and prepared for the tests. The sessions were also limited to one weekend each month. Therefore it was not too stressful to integrate the studies into family life.
However, I've seen that the most universities (Durham, Bradford, Nebraska, Massachusetts, Illinois) I'm interested in, ask for at least 10 hours learning time per week. Have anyone some infomation from first hand? Ist it possible to lower the learning time, still doing great exams?
Best,
Marksy

Hi Marksy,
Iam currently in illinois imba and for study hours it depends on your background and it depends on the subject that being taught
For illinois and i think most of the universities you mentioned will be the same
For illinois for example you will have to watch the lectures on coursera and finish the readings mostly HBR articles and then you have an assignment whether its a case or individual discussion or both it depends on the subject

Hi Abdo,
thanks for your quick answer. At first I have to say that I'm not frightened by the study time in general, but after the presentation I asked myself whether I can afford it every week to reach a level up to 15 hours per week. Moreover, it seems to be as if they can kick you out when you don't join the lessons. In my case I had the opportunity (LL.M.) to join the sessions either live or they have been recorded in my personal account. Of course, in case of tests or exams I had to participate, whereas participation in the other cases wasn't mandatory. How much time you spend o mandatory lessons?

Live sessions are recorded and after 4 courses till now non of them is mandatory
Coursera lectures for 1 week maybe make a sum of 1-2 hrs
Assignments depends on the assignment

Maybe some other insights from Durham and the other top-ranked business-schools? I don't want to have a degree for nothing, but seeking for more flexibilty not forced to join for instance every saturday 8 a.m.
That's why I'm asking for some comments from students or others who have experiences even information from first hand collected via events.
