Illinois: MBA or MSM?

Estpub

Hi everyone, I am an engineer with a few years’ experience and looking to advance my career towards managerial positions. I have been considering the Illinois MBA which looks great, but the price tag is a bit too high for me right now.

I have seen that the university also offers a master of science in management at around half the cost of the MBA course.

I would like to hear opinions about the trade offs of studying the MSM and the MBA. Considering that I am looking a distance learning options only, there might not be that much to gain from the MBA with respect to the MSM.

Thanks!

In practice, the choice is Illinois' - you either have more work experience and fit the iMBA or have less experience and fit the MSM.
