They are both great places to get an MBA from and both have triple accreditation. I think Strathclyde may be better due to its quality of teaching materials as they have a very good number of published authors teaching on their courses. I am biased in that I did a Masters there (B.I.T.S.) in the 1990s.

Durham is a research-led business school. It is reflected in the teaching material and assignments requirements. It is of very high academic standard. There is case based teaching as well but DBS require students to read a lot of reference materials than just the hand-outs.

I have got my first assignment bounced back for rewrite ? for lack of supporting evidences for my arguments. Lot of hard work is required.

Obviously, quality is the result of hard work not just glossy brochures.

I attended a recent open day at Durham. The city is beautiful but you probably won't see much of if you are learning by distance.

I was put off applying there for two reasons. The fellow attendees didn't inspire me -too local, too male and too white (a bit like me really!).

The second reason was the sample lecture given by one of their lecturers was too trite. He was trying too hard to be funny and it grated. The course director was an interesting chap and I warmed more to him. He was far more self-assured and measured.

I did ask to see some of their course materials and saw they had published a handful of books between them.

The day before I visited my alma mater (Strathclyde) but only to obtain a reference, not to attend one of their courses.

I chose Manachester in the end, over Durham.

That's right. For each module along with hand-outs, I received 2 books of good standard published by Pearson Education - FT Prentice Hall and one of them in each module is authored or co-authored by current Durham professors.
