Hello,
I'm looking to start an MBA this year hopefully but due to work and family commitments it will have to be DL. I also work in IT and would like the MBA to have this optional specialisation. From what I can see the only University that fulfills these two criteria is Leicester.
Does anyone know of any others?
Also does anyone have any experience of doing the Leicester MBA with or without the IT specialisation?
Any info is greatly appreciated.

Hi
I can't comment on the Leicester MBA unfortunately, as I don't really know much about it. But if you are struggling to find distance learning MBAs with an IT specialisation, then I'd suggest broadening your search a little to look at those distance learning MBAs that can instead give you a wide choice of electives in the latter part of your programme - you might find that if there are sufficient IT related electives and if you can specialise further in a final project & dissertation, then this will still help you to meet your objectives.
Hope this helps.

Hello Rachel,
Thanks for your response. From what I've seen it is only the Leicester MBA which offers IT related electives.
So far I've not been able to find any others in the UK.

Hi
It will certainly be difficult to find others that will allow you to only study IT electives, I agree. I work at Warwick Business School and our distance learning MBA students have three IT electives to choose (out of a total of six that they need to take):
1. Global Sourcing of Strategic IT and Business Processes (available by distance learning)
2. Business Transformation (available to distance learning students who can visit Warwick for a 5-day face to face module)
3. Global Information & Process Management (available to distance learning students who can visit Mannheim Business School in Germany for a 5-day face to face module in English).
After your core modules, you may find that you have an interest in other related subjects that might complement your IT interest anyway? With a background in marketing, I'm studying for my Executive MBA but gaining a great deal from studying other subjects such as organisational behaviour and accounting too - I've been amazed at how relevant they still are to my job.
Just a thought - everyone is different of course. Hope you find the right programme for you.

Thanks Rachel, your response is much appreciated.
I've looked at the DL Warwick MBA but am not clear about the application process. Does it require GMAT or have any other special requirements?

Hi
We ask for a minimum of four years managerial work experience and normally expect applicants to also have an undergraduate degree or professional qualifications. GMAT isn't needed for the distance learning programme. You need to complete an online application form, submit two references and copies of your transcript of previous studies (if appropriate). There are three (short) essays, but that's it.
If you think the programme might be right for you, then do get in touch with us direct at [email protected] - the admissions team will be happy to help with further questions.
Best wishes

I've not applied to Leicester but am looking at Aston now as they do an e-business specialisation and offer quite a good part time option.
